When I started my online coaching business back in 2011, I was excited by how simple it was to post on social media. Basically hanging out a shingle and launching with a post, think press release. Those used to work back then.
It was the beginning of a new gig.
It was less noisy back then. A Facebook business page got as much exposure as a personal profile. I was just the way it was. Now you have to pay to play. If you want your business page to get seen, you have to put some money in Facebook ads. That’s a whole other blog post.
So I did what any self-respecting coach would do. I focused on creating a community: posting, running challenge groups, networking for new clients and learning all I could about this new online world of social media.
Today, that world has changed. (That’s an understatement!) What worked back then does not work today. New social media platforms have emerged. A new set of algorithms that changes almost daily. These changes make it impossible to keep up with what’s working.
So what are we to do as an alternative. Here’s my list.
1.Blogs and Vlogs
Blog writing has been a steady vehicle for marketing yourself. First, it was mostly writers detailing their lives. Keeping track of travels. Sharing stories and adventures. Now blog writers are willing to teach what they know. Sharing their knowledge and expertise to educate, entertain and inspire their readers.
Word for word, email marketing is one of the best tools these days. And for good reason. Entrepreneurs and small to large companies are constantly looking for ways to stay in touch with their clients and customers. Newsletters, follow-up emails, series campaigns are incredible marketing tools.
3.Ebooks and Downloads
There are so many of these on social media, you would think they are saturated. But they still work to get your message out. A great ebook, for example, can build the know, like and trust factor, build credibility, generate leads, and earn more sales.
That’s why this type of content is an important tool for online businesses.
This type of marketing, specifically live video, works well for an obvious reason. Anytime you can get in front of your target market, you will build your credibility. When you can convey your message and your audience feels drawn to you, you will win.
So there is my list. Did I miss anything? I’m sure I did. If you’d like to add your thoughts to this list, I’d love to hear from you.
